A peaceful protest was held in the University of Limerick on Wednesday the 22nd of June to highlight the plight of several staff members who remain suspended as a result of whistleblowing on financial irregularities over a year ago.
Leona O ‘ Callaghan, a former member of staff is leading the charge against the University as the other staff members fear repercussions. Several of the protestors remained in disguise as they feared the university may take action against them for joining the protest.
The aims of the protest are to highlight ongoing governance, lack of transparency and employment issues at UL. Two of the finance staff remain suspended pending talks between UL and the HEA. The group feel this is unfair in light of the Mazar’s review findings.
