Day 2 of the Citywide Riverfest saw over 13,000 runners compete in the now annual Great Limerick Run. The marathon, half marathon and six mile runs all took place on Sunday offering plenty of challenges for runners, both novice and advanced.
The most popular race by far was the six miles and many of the runners or walkers were competing for the second or third time. The marathon which took runners all over the city was won for the first time, by a limerick runner Martin Doody of Dooneen AC.
In the evening more river activities took place such as performances from fly board champion Gemma Weston from New Zealand and a spectacular fireworks display from St. John’s Castle.
Security was tight all weekend to ensure that the festivities remained family friendly and the organisational team behind the Riverfest, Grooveyard, were being praised by many limerick people for the exceptional events.
